Staying in a #Welcomestay #RoomStay
#RoomStay can be a fabulous alternative to boring hotel rooms.
Staying at a #RoomStay should be a comfortable and pleasant experience. Your host should be welcoming and obliging and make every effort to make you feel at home. By posting a profile on welcome stay they are contractually obliged to be a good host.
We, at welcome stay, don’t like to impose lots of rules.
But there are a few golden rules to remember when staying at a #RoomStay.
You are a guest in some ones home. It should go without saying that you must respect your host and their home. Don’t treat it like a hotel room or treat your host like hotel staff. Hotel staff are paid and can laugh about unpleasant or ill tempered guests. When you are at a #RoomStay it is at the invitation of your host. You may be paying for the privilege but you are a guest in their home, not just a customer.
You must be a courteous, friendly and gracious guest. Never be rude or ill tempered or you will be asked to leave! #WelcomeStay, in extreme cases, advises hosts to call the police!
There are some simple things you can do to be the perfect guest.
Compliment your host if you approve of something. Don’t leave the bedroom untidy. Be considerate of your hosts feelings. Your host will go out of their way to make you feel comfortable.
Accept their efforts, go with the flow and enjoy the experience.
Be safe.
Business trips don’t need to be lonely again. #RoomStay should be convenient, fun, interesting and your #RoomStay experiences should be varied but always comfortable and safe.
If you are travelling alone always tell a family member or friend where you are going to stay. If you are backpacking then post the information on a social network such as face book, twitter, or WelcomeStay’ s forum pages.
When ever you are travelling alone it is important to use some common sense.
Food and drink.
Even if you are booked into a hotel you should, where possible, also stay in some ones home if you really want to experience a culture.
Many countries and cultures have different health and safety standards and regulations. If you are travelling to gain a cultural experience, it is important to live with and like the locals. But you should always take care when you are offered unusual food and drink, especially in developing countries. If you decide that you would prefer not to accept food our drink that is offered then please be polite and apologetic. Remember, that in many cultures it is extremely offensive to turn down hospitality.
If you are adventurous then make sure you have adequate insurance!
In most countries, this shouldn’t be an issue.
Prices
Always discuss and agree the price before you stay at some ones home.
If you are eating with your host establish if it is included in the price. If the host is driving you or taking you on a sight seeing tour you should assume this is extra and negotiate the price before you stay.
Don’t feel pressured to pay for anything you did not agree on before your stay. This behaviour is in breech of our terms and conditions. Hosts reported to use any high pressure techniques are removed and banned from using #WelcomeStay.
#WelcomeStay hopes you enjoy your #RoomStay experiences.
